CVD Lab Grown Diamonds Description


During the CVD synthesis process, microwaves separate the hydrocarbon molecules entering the reaction chamber (left). These separated parts are deposited on the diamond seed at a lower temperature and attached to the surface of the growing diamond. Synthetic diamonds grow in thin layers, and their final thickness depends on the growth time. The result is a flat plate-like crystal (center and right), covered with a layer of black graphite.

Although synthetic diamonds have the same chemical composition as natural diamonds, the growth conditions of synthetic diamonds allow them to form their own identification symbols. Scientists use these identification symbols to distinguish synthetic diamonds from natural diamonds. Scientists can even use these symbols to determine the method used to grow diamonds.
